Edificio Girasol

by Josep Antoni Coderch

The Edificio Girasol (Sunflower Housing) is one of the few works in Madrid by Catalan architect José Antonio Coderch. Located at the corner of one of the most luxurious streets in Madrid, the Sunflower building is an upscale residential structure whose dwellings are arranged diagonally to the facades, to achieve the optimal level of sunlight throughout the day. The apartments are separated by thick, long and sinuous walls. Deep terraces, with wooden lattices that filter the light and provide privacy, are a feature of each dwelling. (EP)
